Questions for Discussion/Meditation
- Pray through Philippians 2:3-4, asking that God would show you any ways in which pride or selfish ambition might be affecting your cultural engagement. Ask that the Lord would help you to grow in your desire and ability to look out for the interests of others.
- Read Luke 10:25-37. Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan with a specific audience in mind: those who attempt to justify their lack of others-centeredness by narrowing the scope of whom they are bound by God to love. The priest and Levite in the story are shown to lack a proper love for one’s neighbor, even though neither of them had had any personal or direct interaction with the injured man on the road. With this passage in mind, examine our consumer’ relationship to actors. Do people we pay to entertain us fall into the neighbor category?
- Read 1 Corinthians 10:23-24. Have you ever had to give up a particular right in order to keep from being unloving toward someone else? Are you willing to at least consider that there may be a right of yours that God might be wanting you to relinquish in order to love others more effectively?
